Funeral Services will be convened Friday, June 21, 2013, 11:00 a. m. at the First Baptist Church, 1116 Amulet Street, Natchitoches, LA 71457 with burial following in the Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum on 5th Street. The remains will lie in state Friday morning from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a. m.
Mrs. Eunice Camille Edwards Johnson, ‘Ms. Camille’, journeyed home peacefully on Saturday, June 15, 2013, in Welsh, Louisiana where she lived near her daughter and son-in-law Lucille & Paul Dennis Matthews. She was born November 5, 1920, in Natchitoches, Louisiana. She received her formal education at Natchitoches Parish Training School. She was a dedicated worker at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana, until her retirement after 25 years of service. She was preceded in death by her husband Lucius (Bubba) Johnson Jr., mother Almerle Washington Remo, stepfather Phillip Remo, father Eli Edwards, stepmother Effie Edwards, two sisters Sallye Ann Edwards Pierce and Louise Helen Edwards. She was also preceded in death by an infant son Charles Leonard, and grandson Gerard Matthews. Ms. Camille, affectionately known as “Madear” by her children, accepted Christ at the age of twelve and was baptized and united with the First Baptist Church on North Street in Natchitoches. In later years she joined First Baptist Church on Amulet Street where she was a faithful and active member for years. She taught Vacation Bible School and sang in the Senior Choir until her health restricted her activities. A devoted wife to her husband Lucius Johnson Jr. for 57 years, and from that union she leaves to cherish her memory eight children: Luella Rivers of Monroe, Louisiana, Lucille (Paul Dennis) Matthews, of Welsh, Louisiana, Grace (Joe) Farley, of Pittsburg, Texas, Yvonne Johnson (Middleton) of Tampa, Florida, Betty (Willie) Thrash, of Plano, Texas, Audrey (Donald) Johnson (Johnson) of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Lucius (Kathy) Johnson III, of Roswell, Georgia, and Daryl (Kim) Johnson of Chicago, Illinois; 23 grand-children, 45 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, one niece, Cynthia Pierce King of Natchitoches, Louisiana, two nephews, Floyd (Laurie) Pierce, Jr., of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, and Michael Eagle of Los Angeles, California, and a host of other relatives and friends.
